Three persons, including a driver with the Highways Department, A. Rathinam of Keeranur, have been booked for threatening an elderly man A. Ilamparithi, 70, and demanding higher rate of interest for a loan. The police said that the complainant had retired as an assistant from the Highways Department. He had taken a loan of ₹ 2 lakh from Rathinam for which he and his wife had signed some bond papers and cheques. The complainant had been paying the interest which had been entered in the credit note. He had paid eight instalments through a nationalised bank. Though he had repaid the entire loan amount, the accused had not returned the bond paper and the cheque leaves. The accused, along with two others, had come to the residence of Ilamparithi at Sundararajanpatti in 2024 and threatened the aged man with dire consequences if he failed to pay more interest to get back the papers. Appantirupathi police are investigating.
