A sidewalk in Belagavi was full of hailstones when it rained on Tuesday. | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT Heavy rain lashed parts of North Karnataka on Tuesday bringing relief to residents who were suffering from a heat wave that began in late February. In Belagavi, Vijayapura and parts of Bagalkot, it rained for nearly an hour. Belagavi, Vijayapura and some other towns also received hailstones. In Belagavi, a tree was uprooted in front of the Public Works Department’s Inspection Bunglow leading to a traffic jam. Police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel cleared it later. There was some waterlogging in low-lying areas like Maratha Colony, Hindalga Road and Bauxite Road Cross. Commuters had to wait under trees and in bus shelters before they could get home.
