The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a spell of rain accompanied by strong winds in parts of South Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha over the next two days. This development comes as the State continues to record above-normal temperatures for this time of the year.

Heat index: How heat stressed are you?

According to officials at the IMD’s Pune Observatory, a cyclonic circulation over South Jharkhand and adjoining North Chhattisgarh, combined with a trough line extending through Vidarbha, is influencing the weather pattern.

For the next three days, the weather is expected to remain dry across the State. Thereafter, isolated thundershowers are likely in Marathwada and Vidarbha on March 13 and 14. On March 14, isolated thundershowers have also been predicted for South Madhya Maharashtra.

In Vidarbha, light to moderate rainfall is expected at isolated places in Yavatmal and Chandrapur districts on March 13 and 14. On March 14, Nagpur, Wardha, and Gadchiroli districts are also likely to receive rain. Consequently, a ‘yellow alert’ has been issued for these districts, advising residents to be cautious of strong winds.

Temperature Outlook

The maximum temperature in Konkan is not expected to change significantly for the next two days, followed by a gradual drop of two to three degrees Celsius. In the interior parts of Madhya Maharashtra, no major change in the maximum temperature is anticipated.

For Vidarbha, day temperatures are likely to remain steady for the next three days, after which a decrease of two to four degrees Celsius is expected.

The IMD has also warned of heatwave conditions at isolated places in Akola district on March 11. Hot and humid weather is predicted for Palghar, Raigad, Thane, and Mumbai districts, for which a ‘yellow alert’ has been issued. In Pune and its surrounding areas, the sky is expected to be mainly clear, with a possibility of partly cloudy conditions in the afternoon.
