People across Erode district are experiencing the impact of rising temperatures, with the mercury touching 36 degrees Celsius on Monday (February 23, 2026), marking the onset of the summer season. Although warm weather has prevailed since the first week of February, residents said the heat has intensified noticeably after the brief spell of chillness ended last week.

The soaring temperature has made afternoons particularly uncomfortable, prompting many to adjust their daily schedules. Daily wage earners, including construction workers, street vendors and sanitation staff, are among the worst affected. As their work requires prolonged hours outdoors, several workers complained of fatigue and discomfort under the blazing sun. Many said they were taking precautionary measures such as resting at frequent intervals, covering their heads with cloth and increasing their water intake to stay hydrated.
