Elaborate security arrangement seen near M. Chinnaswamy stadium for the opening IPL match. | Photo Credit: Murali Kumar K The inaugural match of Indian Premiere League (IPL), 2026, commencing at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy stadium on Saturday (March 28, 2026) is set to witness a high-octane contest between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). While the defending champion RCB is vying to lift the IPL trophy for second time; SRH, too, is eyeing to score big this season. This season (19th IPL edition) will see participation of 10 teams across 12 venues in a total of 74 matches. Also Read | A game for all ages: On the 2026 Indian Premier League 19th season In a significant move by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the customary grand opening ceremony has been cancelled in a bid to pay respect for the 11 fans who succumbed to stampede, caused during RCB’s victory celebrations in 2025. Additionally, both team players are set to observe a minute of silence before the beginning of the match. Eleven seats in a major stand is to be left vacant during the match hours. Also, both SRH and RCB players will wear black arm bands during the match. Taking the development into consideration, the authorities have undertaken significant developments to curb any probable untoward events in the future. Things to know before heading to stadium 1. Entry Process A quick visual guide to attending IPL’s opening match at M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru At the first gate: Security personnel will conduct soft checks, including quick ticket verification, authenticity checks, and confirmation of the correct gate number. From there, spectators will move to the designated holding areas. Holding area: Spectators foray into a large designated holding area to absorb crowd surge. Turnstile gates: Paced, individual entry through automated turnstiles. Stadium Entry & Exit Plan Cubbon Road gates: E-1 to E-3, E-18, E-19, E-22, E-23 (Entry) Link Road gates: E-11 to E-17 (accessible via Anil Kumble Circle & BRV Circle) Queen’s Road gates: Exit only: E-09, E-9A Gate E-10: Reserved exclusively for players, officials, and VIPs. Important Note: Queen’s Road is largely restricted. No general public entry. No gatherings will be allowed on Queen’s Road, Cubbon Road, M.G. Road, and Link Road on match days. Transport & Parking Public Advisory: Police have urged the public to avoid private vehicles and instead rely on BMTC buses and metro services to reduce congestion in and around the stadium.
