Hassan Police have arrested five people in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old youth. He worked as a delivery boy in Bengaluru and was from Gandasi, Arasikere taluk, Hassan district. A group of eight people allegedly murdered the boy, Varun, over a financial dispute and burnt his body close to the Jenukal Siddeshwara Temple near Arasikere. The police have arrested five of the accused so far, namely Chetan, Sathish, Umar, Vijay Nayak, and Manu. Shubhanwita, Superintendent of Hassan, in a press conference in Hassan on Monday, stated that Varun, who had lost his father six months ago, had moved to Bengaluru with his mother. He had been working as a delivery boy and often visited his native place, Gandasi, in Arasikere taluk. “We registered his missing case on March 15. During the investigation, the police found out that he had been murdered. The murder case was registered on March 19. However, as per the information gathered so far, the victim was murdered by the group on March 12 itself,” said the officer. The accused burnt the body after the murder to destroy the evidence. “During the mahazar, we found some biological evidence. We have sent the samples to the forensic science laboratory for further examination,” the officer said. She added that efforts to arrest those absconding were still on, and that the motive behind the murder and where he was murdered would be known only after interrogating all the accused.
