The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) conducted ‘Happy Sunday’ programmes at Bheemunipatnam, Gajuwaka, Aganampudi, Anakapalli, Pendurthi and a few other places in the city on Sunday (February 22, 2026). The events were organised following orders from the State Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department and saw the participation of students, Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs), senior citizens, and public representatives. GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said that the objective of the programme was to promote citizen’s well-being in urban areas, strengthening neighborhood bonding, encouraging a healthy lifestyle, and enhancing the positive use of public spaces. The events will be conducted on the second and fourth Sundays of every month, he said, adding that activities include yoga, meditation, physical exercises, group walking, jogging, cycling, fitness sessions, creative classes, recreational sports, games, music, dance, and family bonding activities. “These programmes also foster community bonding among citizens, strengthen family relationships, encourage students to actively participate in sports and cultural activities, and create greater awareness about cleanliness,” the Commissioner added.
