The first ‘adalat’ was held in Ujire on February 7 in which 33 grievances related to Belthangady educational block came up. “Of this, around 7 grievances/ issues were resolved at my level,” said Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) G.S.Shashidhara. The second adalat will be held in Mangaluru on February 21 in which grievances concerning teachers from Mangaluru South and Mangaluru North blocks will be heard, and redressed. Mr. Shashidhar told The Hindu, “Through Guru Spandana adalats, the government intends to hear teachers at their doorstep and redress their grievances. These adalats will be held between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to avoid disturbance in the academic activities in schools. Apart from DDPI and the Block Education Officer concerned, other officials of the Department of School Education and Literacy will take part in the programme.” Issues and concerns related to posting of teachers as booth level officers for election related work, deputing teachers to non-academic work, and arrears in salary and service benefits, will be heard. “Those at our level will be resolved in a period of 15 days. Those at the policy level will be sent to the State headquarters,” Mr. Shashidhar said. This is a system devised to respond to teachers and redress administrative concerns, which will help teachers concentrate on studies of students, the DDPI said.
