Officials during an inspection after several residents fell ill following alleged consumption of contaminated drinking water, prompting health concerns and complaints of sewage mixing with the supply line, in Greater Noida’s Delta 1 sector, Thursday, January 8, 2026. | Photo Credit: PTI After over 15 residents of Delta 1 in the Greater Noida area of Gautam Buddha Nagar district fell ill over the past four days, complaining of loose motions and stomach pain after allegedly consuming contaminated drinking water, demands grew on Thursday (January 8, 2026) for a permanent sewage monitoring system, regular laboratory testing, pipeline audits, and emergency protocols to prevent such incidents in the future. Locals blamed sewage-mixed water for the illnesses. However, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has not confirmed any contamination. “As per information received, contaminated drinking water was supplied in Delta 1 sector block C, 152-202, in Greater Noida, leading to illness of at least 15 people. We demand immediate action from the authorities on high TDS and sewer-mixed water. It is mandatory to implement a permanent monitoring system, regular lab-test, pipeline audit, and emergency protocol to prevent contaminated water supply in future,” a letter by the Gautam Buddha Nagar Vikas Samiti addressed to the chief executive officer of GNIDA said. Residents said they had raised repeated complaints with GNIDA for several months, but alleged that the problem persisted. Locals also complained of receiving yellow-coloured water in their homes for days, with several people developing ailments such as diarrhoea and vomiting.
