Grand Sri Rama Navami celebrations at Indrakeeladri and Sitanagaram

Sri Rama Navami was celebrated with great religious fervour and grandeur across prominent temples in Vijayawada on Friday (March 27, 2026).

At Indrakeeladri, special rituals were performed at the abode of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Temple from the early morning as part of the Vasantha Navaratri celebrations. Thousands of devotees thronged the temple to witness the celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Sita, performed precisely during the auspicious Abhijit muhurtham at 12 noon. The ceremony took place on a specially arranged stage near the temple’s main tower, in accordance with Vedic traditions.

Temple Executive Officer Seena Nayak and his spouse, along with Sthanacharya Vishnubhatla Shivaprasad Sharma and his spouse, participated in the ceremony and offered silk garments to the deities. The rituals were conducted by chief priest R. Srinivasa Sastry, deputy chief priest Kota Prasad, and a team of Vedic scholars. Members of the temple trust board, including A. Srinivasa Rao, Raghava Raju, Sarojini Devi, and Kalavati, were also present.

Sri Rama Navami marks the culmination of the Vasantha Navaratri festival, which begins on the first day of the bright fortnight of the Chaitra month. Conducting the celestial wedding of Lord Rama in the presence of Goddess Kanaka Durga during the spring season is considered a unique tradition at Indrakeeladri.

Meanwhile, similar celebrations were held on the banks of the Krishna River at the Sri Veera Anjaneya Swamy Temple in Sitanagaram. The celestial wedding ceremony was performed at noon, attracting a large number of devotees. The rituals, conducted amid Vedic chants, created a spiritually uplifting atmosphere along the riverbank.

Temple Chairman Borra Radhakrishna (Gandhi) and his spouse participated in the ceremony and offered silk garments to the deities. Mr. Seena Nayak and his spouse also took part in the special rituals. Temple trust board members, staff, and locals attended the celebrations in large numbers. After the ceremony, devotees were served traditional offerings and meals.
