The State Committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) alleged that the State government has remained indifferent despite its claims that it would completely eradicate drugs and ganja, as supporters of ruling alliance leaders, including followers of MPs, MLAs, and even sons of IAS officers, have been caught consuming drugs.

The federation’s State president Y. Ramu and State secretary G. Ramanna, in a press release, alleged that the coalition government’s efforts to eliminate drugs and ganja from the State appeared to be limited to publicity rather than concrete action.

They stated that recently an MP was caught consuming drugs, and now the son of a senior IAS officer from the A.P. cadre has been caught consuming drugs at a pub in Hyderabad. They questioned what action had been taken against those involved in such incidents.

The leaders opined that such incidents sent the wrong message to society. “It is shameful for the society when children of public representatives and senior officials, who are expected to set an example, engage in such behaviour,” they said.

The DYFI leaders demanded strict action against violators of law in such incidents. They also alleged that drug and ganja mafias were operating freely in the State with the support of some political leaders and a few officials. There have been incidents where such groups had even resorted to attacks on the public, they claimed.
