A nine-year-old school girl died on Monday (February 9, 2026) after a poisonous insect allegedly bit her in Namakkal. The deceased, M. Rakshitha, a resident of 87 Goundampalayam near Tiruchengode, was studying at the panchayat union primary school in Kumaramangalam. For the centenary celebrations of the school, students were engaged in dance programme rehearsals at a marriage hall near the school on Sunday (February 8, 2026). Rakshitha was participating in the rehearsal when she fainted. The teachers took her to Tiruchengode Government Hospital and after providing first-aid, she was referred to Namakkal Government Medical College Hospital. There, on Monday, she died without responding to the treatment. The Elachipalayam police registered a case and are investigating further. On information, former Minister P. Thangamani went to the hospital and met the parents of the deceased.
