Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Mysuru MP, said the growing international demand for Nanjangud Rasabale and Mysore Betel Leaf will not only ensure better prices for farmers but also reinforce the importance of preserving age-old farming traditions.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mention of Mysuru’s GI-tagged products in his widely followed ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme, the Mysuru MP noted that expanding the export reach of these GI-based products would enhance farmers’ incomes, create new value chains, and encourage young agriculturists to invest in GI-based farming. Plans are being shaped with a broader vision to strengthen India’s agricultural sector while protecting local biodiversity and cultural heritage, he explained.

He emphasised that Farmer-Producer Organisations (FPOs), exporters, research institutions, and State agencies must work together to scale up production while maintaining the standards that uphold the GI reputation.

The Centre, Mr. Wadiyar said, is committed to facilitating market linkages, logistics support, branding initiatives, and institutional backing so that farmers can fully benefit from these opportunities.

Reaffirming the vision highlighted by the Prime Minister in ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the MP said GI assets should be transformed into engines of rural prosperity, ensuring that global recognition translates into economic empowerment for farmers. He called upon all stakeholders to work collectively to realise this vision.

“It was a matter of great pride for the farming community that the Prime Minister referred to Nanjangud’s famous Rasabale banana and Mysore Betel Leaf. It has brought immense joy and pride to the region,” the MP said in a statement, while reacting to the PM’s mention of the products.
