Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Pottassery, Palakkad district, and Government Upper Primary School (GUPS), Vithura, Thiruvananthapuram district, on Saturday won the first prizes in the secondary and primary category, respectively, in the grand finale of ‘KITE Haritha Vidyalayam 4.0’, an educational reality show organised by KITE (Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education) to share the excellence of public schools.

In the secondary category, AKGM GHSS, Peralassery, and RGM HSS, Mokeri, both in Kannur district, secured the second and third positions respectively. In the primary category, Government Lower Primary School (GLPS), Nileswaram (Kasaragod district), won the second prize, and AUPS Pariyapuram Central (Malappuram district) secured the third prize.

Special jury awards were presented to AKM HSS, Kottoor (Malappuram) and GHSS Chayoth (Kasaragod) in the secondary category, and to GUPS, Puthiyankam (Palakkad) and GLPS Valayanchirangara (Ernakulam) in the primary category.

In addition to trophies and certificates of merit, ICT equipment and cash awards to the tune of ₹50 lakh were distributed at the finale.

In the secondary category, the first, second, and third-place winners received ICT equipment to the tune of ₹8.4 lakh, ₹6.3 lakh, and ₹4.2 lakh, respectively.

In the primary category, the awards were to the tune of ₹6.3 lakh, ₹4.2 lakh, and ₹2.94 lakh, respectively.

The special jury award amounted to ₹2.1 lakh each in the secondary category and ₹1.68 lakh each in the primary category.

The finalists in the two categories received cash prize to the tune of ₹50,000 each.

Specially honored

Students from 16 schools who showcased outstanding performance during the initial floor shoot of the show were specially honored at the event.

Inaugurating the finale, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty said Kerala was the first State to provide all children with the opportunity to learn artificial intelligence (AI). The development of an ‘unbiased’ AI engine by KITE and the ‘Sarvam AI Mayam’ programme, where students train six lakh parents in AI, were world-class models. Director of General Education NSK Umesh and KITE chief executive officer K. Anvar Sadath spoke.

Of the 825 schools that applied for Haritha Vidyalayam from across the State, 86 schools were selected to compete in the first round. Of these, 26 schools advanced to the second round. Nearly two lakh children participated in various stages of the show.
