The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has removed 52 abandoned vehicles and transported 3,945 metric tonnes (MT) of additional waste during an ongoing Special Sanitation Drive conducted across the city over the last 11 days. The drive, covering all 300 wards within GHMC limits, involved sanitation operations at 2,526 locations, including roads, footpaths, flyovers, foot overbridges, garbage-vulnerable points and parks. The initiative is aimed at improving cleanliness, addressing traffic obstructions and enhancing public safety. GHMC teams, with support from the Traffic Police where required, cleared long-abandoned and scrap vehicles from public spaces, where they were contributing to congestion, safety concerns and unhygienic conditions. As part of the sanitation effort, the civic body transported 2,910 metric tonnes of solid waste and 1,035 metric tonnes of construction and demolition debris, taking the total additional waste cleared during the period to 3,945 metric tonnes. GHMC has urged residents to report abandoned vehicles in their neighbourhoods, particularly those left unused for long periods or obstructing public spaces. Such complaints can be lodged with location details through the GHMC helpline at 040-2111 1111 for verification and action. Officials said the drive would continue with sustained field monitoring to ensure improved sanitation standards and unobstructed public spaces across the city.
