The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has launched a pilot project to test the efficacy of QR Code-based door-to-door garbage collection at Nalanda Nagar in Hyderguda, under Attapur Circle of Rajendranagar Zone.

As per the system, a QR code will be given to every individual household/apartment complex for the Swachh Auto Tipper drivers/owners to scan and register the collection of garbage every day. This way, it will be possible to know how the number of households in each ward which are giving the garbage to the SAT vehicles, officials informed.

GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan said that the QR code-based door-to-door waste collection system would enhance accountability and ensure daily collection of garbage from every household.

On Tuesday morning, the Commissioner inspected the implementation of the pilot project, accompanied by Zonal Commissioner Anurag Jayanti, Additional Commissioner (Sanitation) Ravi Kiran and others.

The Commissioner observed that Swachh Auto workers play a crucial role in transforming Greater Hyderabad into a clean city. He directed Deputy Commissioners and officials of the Solid Waste Management wing, including DEEs and AEs, to ensure that door-to-door garbage collection is carried out without fail every day across GHMC limits.

Officials were instructed to identify households that fail to hand over waste to Swachh Auto workers and motivate residents to participate in the system. Mr. Karnan warned that negligence in attendance, performance of sanitation workers and supervisory lapses would not be tolerated.

He also directed officials to respond promptly to complaints related to sanitation issues. Stressing the importance of public participation, the Commissioner called for awareness and outreach programmes to strengthen community involvement in cleanliness initiatives.

Officials stated that if the pilot project yields positive results, plans would be drawn up to implement the QR code-based waste collection system across GHMC limits.
