The Manasagangotri campus of the University of Mysore may soon host a ‘Gen Z-themed’ post office, modelled on similar modern postal outlets recently introduced in educational institutions in Bengaluru.

The Postal Department’s initiative aims to bridge the gap between traditional postal services and younger generations by offering aesthetically-designed café-style spaces to attract students and youth who otherwise remain distant from postal department initiatives.

Addressing reporters in Mysuru on Saturday, Sandesh Mahadevappa, Director of Postal Services (HQ), Karnataka Postal Circle, said the campus post offices would differ significantly from conventional formats. “These centres are specially designed to provide an entirely new customer experience,” he said, adding that two such Gen Z-themed post offices have already been launched in two Bengaluru colleges.

According to Mr. Mahadevappa, plans are underway to establish a similarly aesthetic and technologically integrated post office in Mysuru, with e-commerce services. “We want it to open on the University of Mysore campus, and I have asked my staff to get in touch with the university authorities. It will be done soon,” he stated.

He also noted that a new software platform has been introduced to modernise postal services, incorporating technical upgrades and new-age digital features to improve efficiency and customer experience.

V. Tara, Director of Postal Services, Karnataka Postal Circle, said the department is focusing on promoting Geographical Indication (GI) products and the ‘One District One Product’ initiative to encourage artisans and strengthen exports. Memorandums have been signed to promote exports through post offices, benefiting traditional craft industries. Around 50 post offices already provide such services, she added.
