After a brief lull, temperatures in the Alluri Sitharama Raju district plummeted sharply in the early hours of Wednesday, recording the lowest minimums so far in the current season across several parts of the Agency region.

G. Madugula registered a minimum temperature of 2.7° Celsius, the lowest so far recorded this season, according to data released by the Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Chintapalli. Earlier, the season’s lowest minimum temperature was 3.2° Celsius, recorded at G. Madugula on December 12, 2024.

It may be noted that G. Madugula had recorded a minimum temperature of 9.7° Celsius on Tuesday, indicating a sudden and severe dip in temperatures in the Agency areas.

After G Madugula, Munchingputtu and Araku Valley recorded minimum temperatures of 3.5° Celsius and 3.6° Celsius respectively. The district headquarters Paderu registered a minimum temperature of 4.4° Celsius, while Pedabayalu recorded 5.8° Celsius. Similarly, Chintapalli and Hukumpeta reported minimum temperatures of 6° Celsius and 6.4° Celsius respectively.

Since the beginning of this week, there had been a slight rise in temperatures, with most areas recording minimum temperatures ranging between 8° Celsius and 13° Celsius. However, the mercury once again dropped sharply. Meanwhile, dense fog continues to prevail across the Agency region, with thick fog engulfing several areas until around 9 a.m., significantly affecting visibility on roads. Tribals living in interior hamlets have been relying on campfires to cope with the biting cold.
