New York, March 4: Indescribable scenes were witnessed at the Stock Market as a result of a record slump in railway shares, hundreds and thousands of which were freely offered. Trading in the afternoon was done at a terrific pace, there being over 2 million sales during the first three hours alone. In the general scramble to execute orders brokers performed antics like dancing dervishes almost tearing off each other’s clothing as they struggled around the various trading posts. Meanwhile tickers rattled at full speed but even after the first hour they were 18 minutes behind the market. Outside the brokerage offices were jammed with anxious crowd which fearfully watched the furious battle of bulls and bears indicated on the boards by a thousand clerks, many of whom had been working all night and had toiled feverishly over their ledgers trying to keep their records abreast of the deluge of orders Published – March 05, 2026 05:13 am IST Share this: Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window) WhatsApp Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook Click to share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads Click to share on X (Opens in new window) X Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window) Telegram Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest Click to email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email More Click to print (Opens in new window) Print Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window) Pocket Click to share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon Click to share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window) Nextdoor Click to share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky Like this:Like Loading...
