Four youths lost their lives in two separate road accidents that occurred in the city in the early hours of Thursday.

In one incident, two youths were killed when a car collided with a motorcycle at Veli in the early hours of Thursday. The victims were identified as Abbas, 20, and Shafath, 26, both of whom hailed from Poonthura. The motorcycle was travelling from the All Saints College area towards Veli when it was hit by a car from the opposite direction.

The riders were thrown onto the road following the impact of the collision. Despite being rushed to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital by the Valiyathura police, their lives could not be saved.

In another case, two others were killed after a motorcycle collided head-on with a car near Prasanth Nagar on the Ulloor–Akkulam road. The motorcycle was headed from Akkulam towards Ulloor when it was hit by a car coming from the opposite direction.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammed Favas, 23, and Mohammed Faizi, 21, of Azhikode. Favas was employed at a mobile shop in Karyavattom, while Faizi worked at a chicken shop in Azhikode. The duo were returning home after celebrating the New Year at a shopping mall.

The car involved in the accident was completely damaged at the front. Liquor bottles and bottles were found scattered inside the vehicle. The police have taken into custody four youths who travelled in the car. They were identified as Aswin, Abhin, Amal and Sarath of Parassala.

The police have registered cases and launched investigations in both cases.
