The forest personnel detained four hunters on Wednesday as they attempted to hunt wild animals with hounds. Following information, District Forest Officer R. Raj Mohan deputed a team of forest personnel to nab the persons involved in hunting at Sundarapandiapuram with hounds. When the forest personnel visited the farm of one Murugan at Sundarapandiapuram on Wednesday, they found a gang was roaming around with hounds for hunting the wild animals. They were detained and identified as K. Murugan, S. Agesh, K. Ilango and R. Inbarasu, all from Sundarapandiapuram. As they were produced in front of Dr. Raj Mohan, they reportedly confessed to the DFO that they had camped in the farm for hunting the wild animals with hounds. The hunters were warned and released after they paid the forest compounding fee of ₹1.10 lakh. Dr. Raj Mohan appealed to the public to alert Assistant Conservator of Forest Nellainayagam (mobile phone number 82481 51116) Tenkasi Forest Range Officer Chelladurai (97869 32520) or DFO Control Room (04633 – 233550 / 233660) in case of any poaching in their area. The informers’ identity will not be revealed at any circumstance, Dr. Raj Mohan promised.
