Four held for stealing gold ornaments in Cuddalore

The Cuddalore New Town police arrested four persons on charges of robbing a home-alone woman and recovered 13 sovereigns of gold jewellery from their possession.

The arrested were identified as Raji alias Santhanaraj and K. Sumathi of Semmandalam, S. Krishnasamy and A. Suguna of Kunnathur in Pudukottai district.

Police said the victim R. Roopika, 19, a resident of Manjakuppam was alone in her house on Wednesday when Santhanaraj, Krishnasamy and Suguna arrived at her doorstep and claimed they had come to invite her to a wedding. An unsuspecting Roopika welcomed them inside.

The gang threatened Roopika and robbed the valuables.

On being informed, the police inspected the house. Later, during routine vehicle check, a police team detained Sumathy and Santhanaraj. The duo confessed to their involvement in the robbery. Based on information provided by them, the police arrested Krishnasamy and Suguna and recovered 13 sovereigns of jewellery from their possession.
