Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday laid the foundation stone for a “Mega Chola Museum” at Thanjavur through video conference from Chennai. The museum complex would come up on a 50-acre land belonging to the Tamil University, Thanjavur, with access from the Medical College Road. The building with ground plus two floors to house the museum would be built at a cost of ₹56.41 crore. It would have a plinth area of 28,298 sq. ft. on the ground floor, 24,380 sq. ft. on the first floor and 5,651 sq. ft. on the second floor. While reception counter, four galleries, a conference hall, laboratory, store and curator rooms, shops would be housed on the ground floor, seven galleries, a 7D theatre, library and research branch, administrative and public facilities would be housed on the first floor, three galleries and maintenance room would be set up on the second floor. Higher Education Minister Govi. Chezhiaan, Thiruvaiyaru MLA D. Chandrasekaran, Thanjavur MLA T.K.G. Neelamegam, Thanjavur Mayor S. Ramanathan, Deputy Mayor Anjugam, and District Revenue Officer Thyagarajan were present on the Tamil University campus, sources added. Manora facade lighting The Chief Minister also inaugurated the renovated facade lighting and infrastructure development civil works, carried out at a cost of ₹2.75 crore at Manora Memorial Building site at Sarabendra Rajapattinam in Pattukottai taluk.
