Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Minister T.R.B. Rajaa has laid the foundation for a ready-made garment manufacturing unit at Thirupalakudi panchayat in Mannargudi taluk of Tiruvarur district.

The unit will come up on 3.61 acres at an estimated cost of ₹50 crore and is expected to generate employment opportunities for around 2,000 people in the first phase and provide a fillip to industrial activity in the Cauvery delta region.

Collector V. Mohanachandran, SIPCOT Managing Director K. Senthilraj, and other officials were present.

Mr. Rajaa said the State government was making sustained efforts to ensure balanced industrial growth across regions, including delta districts, and that the project would create job opportunities for local youth, particularly women, while strengthening the local economy.

Initiatives were being undertaken to promote industries in the district, including Mannargudi, and the garment unit would contribute to livelihood generation and support ancillary economic activities in the area.

District Revenue Officer P. Kalaivani, Revenue Divisional Officer Yogeswaran, Mannargudi Municipal Chairman Mannai T. Chozharajan, and representatives of the implementing agency and local bodies participated.
