Air Commodore (Dr.) Vijaypat Singhania, recipient of Padma Bhusan, former chairman of Raymond Group and former Sheriff of Bombay passed away on Saturday (March 28, 2026) evening in Mumbai.

“A visionary leader, philanthropist, and an inspiring personality, whose legacy will continue to guide and inspire generations,” the Raymond Group said in a statement.

He was best known for transforming the Raymond Group into a global fashion powerhouse. He took over the company in 1980 and expanded its portfolio to include textiles, steel, and hospitality.

He held the world record for highest altitude gained in a hot air balloon and winning the gold medal in an around-the-world air race.

Once he decided to take retirement and handed over the reins of Raymond to his son Gautam Singhania in 2015, their relationship soured, leading to a public feud. Since then he and wife had been living in a rented apartment, a marked difference from his flamboyant life style.

His last rites will be performed on Sunday (March 29, 2026).
