A forest watcher was killed in an elephant attack at Thiruvizhamkunnu, near Mannarkkad, on Tuesday evening. The attack took place when Shaiju, 28, a temporary watcher, tried to drive away an elephant that strayed into human habitation. Shaiju was part of a 10-member forest team deployed to drive away the elephant. Shaiju sustained critical injuries, and was rushed to a private hospital at Mannarkkad. But he died soon.
