Seedlings of tree species, including teak, ‘mahagani’, ‘vengai’, red sander, jackfruit, rosewood and neem will be raised in the nurseries of the Forest department. | Photo Credit: FILE PHOTO The Forest department will raise over 3.5 lakh seedlings of various tree species in Tiruchi Circle under the Green Tamil Nadu Mission for the 2026-27 financial year. The Tiruchi Circle consists of Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Ariyalur, and Perambalur Forest Divisions. The target for raising the seedlings of various tree species, including those bearing fruits, have been specified for each Division under the Green Tamil Nadu Mission with the objective of increasing the State’s tree cover. The District Forest Officers / Wildlife Wardens have been instructed to raise quality seedlings strictly as per Standard Operating Procedure and ensure that there was no shortfall in seedling production for the planting season.
