Flying squad teams constituted in Tiruppur district for the 2026 Assembly election confiscated unaccounted cash amounting to ₹41.73 lakh in Avinashi, Palladam, Kangayam, and Tiruppur North Assembly constituencies on Monday. A total of 72 flying squad teams, 72 static surveillance teams, and 16 video surveillance teams have been constituted in the district. District Collector and District Election Officer Manish S. Narnaware told mediapersons on Monday that a control room has been commissioned at the Collectorate to function round the clock. Violations of election norms could be conveyed over phone to the toll-free number 1800-425-0045. The Election Commission’s cVIGIL App could also utilised to register complaints. The public who have grievances pertaining to voter identity card and voter list could dial the toll-free number 0421-1950 .The follow-up action will be taken by the special squads within 100 minutes, he said. The district administration has instructed political parties to erase or remove their advertisements and placards on government premises or buildings within the next 24 hours, and the posters in public places and buildings, bus stands, railway stations, and buildings of local bodies within the next 48 hours. As for private buildings, the hoardings and other advertisement materials must be removed within the next 72 hours. Under Representation of the People’s Act Section 7(A), posters, pamphlets, and advertisements must carry the details of the printers, he said. Until further notice, the weekly grievances redress session on Mondays will not be conducted. People could drop their petitions in the box placed in the ground floor of the Collectorate. Filing of nominations will take place from March 30 to April 6, and scrutiny of nominations on April 7. Last day for withdrawal is April 9. The election will take place on April 23, and counting on May 4. Tiruppur with eight Assembly segments has an electorate strength of 19,55,283 voters – 9,44,178 men, 10,10,853 women, and third gender – 252. The Assembly segments constitute (voters and polling centres in brackets) Dharmapuri – Reserved constituency (2,20,743 and 183 ), Kangayam (2,16,646 and 144) Avinashi – Reserved (2,50,346 and 179), Tiruppur North (3,10,138 and 99) Tiruppur South (1,93,614 and 78), Palladam (3,22,530 and 179), Udumalpet (2,28,524 and 132), and Madathukulam (2,12,742 and 118). There are 11,499 voters under PwD (people with disability) category and 39,541 first-time voters (18-19 years). Functionality of Electronic Voting Machines has been determined. Twenty per cent of the 3,922 control units, 5,506 balloting units and 30% of 4,059 VVPAT (Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail) units have been kept in reserve. Of them, 170 each control units, ballot units and VVPAT were utilised for training purposes.
