The Telangana government has notified the reservation of wards, offices of chairpersons and mayors for the municipal local body polls as per the 2011 census for SC/ST, the Dedicated Commission report for the BCs and 50% for women across categories as per the Telangana Municipal Act of 2019 for the 121 municipal councils and 10 municipal corporations on Wednesday night.

This has ensured that SCs and STs get one each post for Mayor’s post, BCs get three, including one for women. There are four for women and another in the unreserved category. For the municipalities chairperson posts — it is five for STs, including two women, 17 for SCs, including eight for women, 38 for BCs, including 19 women. In the unreserved category, of the 61, a total of 31 are reserved for women.

Within the GHMC, out of the 300 wards, five are set aside for the STs, including two for women, 23 for SCs, including 11 for women, 122 for BCs, including 61 for women, 76 for women, and 74 in the unreserved category. The ward quota division for the 121 other municipalities has also been done using the same formula, as per the orders issued by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Secretary, T.K. Sreedevi.
