Five general observers have been appointed to oversee election work in Coimbatore district. As per the Election Commission’s directions, they will stay in the district from March 18 to May 4 and monitor poll-related activities across constituencies. All five observers are officers of the Indian Administrative Service. Sunil Kumar Yadav has been assigned to Mettupalayam and Kavundampalayam constituencies, Krishna Aditya will oversee Sulur and Singanallur, Sanjay Kumar has been appointed for Coimbatore North and Coimbatore South, Pranjal Yadav for Thondamuthur and Kinathukadavu, and Yashindra Singh for Pollachi and Valparai. Meanwhile, a review meeting on election preparedness was held at the Sulur taluk office on Tuesday under the chairmanship of general observer Krishna Aditya for Sulur (116) and Singanallur (121) constituencies. Officials including Assistant Commissioner (Urban Land Tax) M. Jeganathan, Returning Officer for Singanallur constituency and Assistant Commissioner (East Zone) Dakshinamurthy, and tahsildars took part in the meeting. During the meeting, the observer said members of the public could submit complaints and petitions in person at the Circuit House at the Race Course in Coimbatore between 11 a.m. and 12 noon, or contact him over phone at 94438 61262. He also instructed officials to focus on polling stations that recorded low turnout in the previous election and to conduct continuous SVEEP awareness programmes in those areas to improve voter participation. According to election officials, a total of 13 observers, including general, police and expenditure observers, are expected to reach Coimbatore on Wednesday (March 18, 2026).
