The first randomisation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) units to be used in the nine Assembly constituencies in Tiruchi district and two Assembly constituencies in Perambalur district were carried out on Monday.

The exercise was held at the Tiruchi and Perambalur District Collectorates. General Observers, District Election Officer / District Collector of the two districts and representatives of various political parties were present.

Following the completion of the First Randomization, the list containing the EVMs and VVPATs allocated for every Assembly constituency in Tiruchi district were given to the recognised national and political parties. The EVMs and VVPATs would be handed over to the respective Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officer of the Assembly constituencies concerned for use during polling.

Both machines would be kept in safe custody in the strong rooms of the respective Assembly constituency in the presence of the representatives of national and state political parties. Once the list of contesting candidates are finalised, the list of EVMs and VVPATs post First Randomisation would be given to all contesting candidates, an official release said. 

Tiruchi district consists of Tiruchi East, Tiruchi West, Srirangam, Tiruverumbur, Lalgudi, Musiri, Manachanallur, Thuraiyur and Manapparai Assembly constituencies. Perambalur district has Perambalur and Kunnam Assembly constituencies.
