Federation of Indian Fisher Organisations (FIFO) submitted a representation to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), urging for a “fisher-centric” approach to global subsidy reforms currently under negotiation in Geneva.

Led by General Secretary Arjilli Dasu, the federation highlighted that while marine conservation is a global priority, the proposed withdrawal of subsidies could inadvertently cripple the livelihoods of nearly 28 million people in India who depend on the blue economy.
