Thangaraj with his sons Rajesh and Latthesh | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement A 36-year-old man and his two sons drowned in a lake at Nayanthangal village near Cheyyar town in Tiruvannamalai on Saturday. They slipped into the water body while they were trying to catch fish in the lake. Police said the deceased has been identified as K. Thangaraj, 36, who works as manager in a private firm, and has two sons namely T. Rajesh, 7, and T. Latthesh, 5. Initial inquiry revealed that Thangaraj came to his native village for Pongal holidays from Chennai. When Thangaraj and his sons went to a lake in the village to catch fish, the children went deeper into the lake where they got caught in the slush. Despite not knowing how to swim, Thangaraj ventured into the water and drowned. As the trio did not return for a long time, Divya Bharathi, Thangaraj’s wife, went in search of them. She found slippers of her children near the bund of the lake. Based on an alert, Moranam police, who along with firefighters, retrieved the bodies from the lake. A case was registered. A probe is under way.
