The Tamilaga Nalivuttra Vivasayigal Sangam has demanded that farmers should be allowed to carry ₹3 lakh in cash with them during the election canvassing period. In a resolution passed at the State Executive Meeting held in Thanjavur on March 25, the Sangam said it was absurd to check vehicles carrying farm produce and farm equipment under the guise of enforcing the Model Code of Conduct. Further, farmers should be allowed to carry ₹3 lakh in cash earned by them through the sale of farm produce at the ‘shandis’ (markets), it added. It had passed resolutions expressing its dissent over the handling of various issues relating to the agriculture by the Union government and extending its support to the State government for its “people-centric” schemes and projects. It exhorted other farmers’ association to extend their support to the DMK in the forthcoming elections.
