A farmer suffered multiple injuries as an Indian Gaur attacked him while he was working in his farm near Puliyangudi on Wednesday.

When lemon grower Thirumalaisamy, 69, of Puliyangudi was working in his farm on Wednesday, an Indian Gaur that entered the farm attacked him. After recovering from the first attack, Mr. Thiruamalisamy tried to escape from the wild animal that chased him for a distance and attacked again in which he sustained multiple injuries.

On hearing the scream for help from the victim, farmers in nearby ranches chased away the Indian Gaur and took Mr. Thirumalaisamy to the Puliyangudi Government Hospital where he received first-aid and 20 sutures. He was then shifted to the Tenkasi Government Hospital for further treatment.

Forest Ranger, Puliyangudi, Arumugam, who arrived at the spot, deployed forest guards to chase the wild animal back into the forest and gave ₹10,000 to the victim for medical assistance.

Following the fresh wild animal attack, farmers have appealed to the Department of Forest to erect solar electric fence to check wild animal invasion into their fields.
