Family donates body of ex-serviceman to Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital

Family members have donated the body of an ex-serviceman Malaikani (78) of Sivakasi to Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital.

He died on Thursday night due to coronary artery disease and his son, Rajasekaran and other family members fulfilled the wish of Malaikani, who had wished to donate his organs.

“The body that would have otherwise been cremated would now help medical students in the purpose of research and education,” Mr. Rajasekaran said.

This body donation is regarded as a noble humanitarian act in the interest of medical education and social welfare and has been duly accepted by the Medical College administration following the prescribed procedures.

Mr. Rajasekaran said that the procedures for donation of body should be simplified so that the bereaved family members are not made to run from pillar to post.

A single window system should be in force sparing the family members from going from one floor to another to get the formalities done, he added.
