The ‘Parvathi idol’ allegedly on display for auction at Sothebys’ Auction House, New York. | Photo Credit: By Special Arrangement The former Inspector General of Police, A.G. Ponn Manickavel has lodged a complaint of theft and misappropriation of a ‘Parvathi idol’ from Thiruppalanam village temple, with the Thiruvaiyaru police. Disclosing this to the media here on March 27, Mr. Manickavel said that the idol was smuggled from Sri Abathsagayeswarar temple, Thiruppalanam, in Thanjavur district to USA and now displayed at Sothebys’ Auction House, New York for an auction price of ₹8 crores to start with.
