Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units for use in 2,379 polling stations were dispatched to the eight Assembly constituencies in the district on Tuesday (March 24, 2026). The exercise was carried out under tight security in the presence of representatives of recognised political parties.

District Election Officer and Collector S. Kandasamy, who oversaw the process, said adequate arrangements had been made for the smooth conduct of polling. He added that an additional 20% of EVMs had been kept in reserve to meet contingencies. A total of 2,852 control units, 2,852 ballot units and 3,089 VVPAT units were distributed. Polling is scheduled for April 23 and counting of votes will be taken up on May 4.

The machines were taken from the Election Commission’s warehouse at the Erode Revenue Divisional Office and dispatched to the constituencies after due procedures, including randomisation, were completed. All the machines will be kept in the strong rooms in the respective constituencies. The district has an electorate of 17,40,222, comprising 8,34,466 men, 9,01,574 women and 182 third-gender voters.
