Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa has said that the State Government will not evict families of Yadamane in Sagar taluk, whom the Forest Department recently served eviction notices.

In a communique to the media on Tuesday, Mr. Madhu Bangarappa, who is also minister in-charge of Shivamogga district, stated that the ACF had ordered for eviction of the families, who allegedly started encroaching upon the forest area, in 2012-13, when the BJP was in power in the state. The notices had been served based on the old orders.

“However, the present Congress government has no intention to displace any family. I have spoken to the Forest Department officials and instructed them not to evict any family forcibly,” he stated.

The families at Yadamane had sought a grant of land under the Forest Rights Act. However, they had not received the grant, as they lacked certain documents to claim the grant. They need to file an appeal. “The government will consider their plea and take appropriate action,” he stated.

The families of Yadamane are in shock after they received notices from the Forest Department. The leaders of all political parties and farmers’ organisations visited the village and conveyed their support to the families.
