Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Tuesday said the DMK government had cheated the people of Tamil Nadu by failing to fulfil its poll promises even after being in power for five years.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Mr. Vasan alleged that over the last five years, the DMK government had increased the financial burden on the people. “Voters of Tamil Nadu waited for the DMK’s poll promises to be fulfilled, but they were cheated. The DMK-Congress alliance in Tamil Nadu is the complete embodiment of contradictions,” he said.

Mr. Vasan said the BJP-led government at the Centre, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, shows no partiality in devising and implementing schemes and focuses on the holistic development of all. He said his sole objective in the upcoming elections was to ensure the victory of his party’s nominees who had worked tirelessly to strengthen the organisation. He said party workers would wholeheartedly engage in election work in all the Assembly segments to secure the victory of NDA nominees.

He said he had been holding zonal-level meetings with party functionaries and receiving applications from ticket aspirants. Once the seat-sharing arrangements were finalised, the party would announce its nominees for the contest.
