Electric vehicle (EV) retail sales grew double-digit in calendar year 2025 (CY25) backed by strong adoption. In 2025, a total number of 22,70,107 EV units were retailed compared with 19,50,727 units retailed in 2024, up 16.37%, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) on Wednesday. A total of 12.80 lakh electric two-wheelers were retailed in CY25, up 11.36% YoY). This accounted for 6.3% of the total two-wheelers sold during the year. Electric passenger vehicles grew sharply to 1,76,817 units, up 77.04% YoY, taking the EV share in total PV sales to 4% from 2.4% last year, data showed. The most decisive transformation continues to be in three-wheelers, where EVs now command 60.9% share, with EV 3W retails at 7,97,733 units, up 15.39% YoY, a strong endorsement of EV economics in last-mile mobility, FADA said in a statement. Momentum was also visible in commercial vehicles with the electric CV segment clocking retail sales of 15,606 units, up 54.2% YoY. The share of EVs in this segment grew to 1.55%. “CY25 clearly reinforces that India’s electrification journey is no longer a pilot, it is scaling, segment by segment,” said FADA president C.S. Vigneshwar. “This transition is being powered by improving product choices and total cost of ownership benefits, and it underlines the need for a coordinated push on charging infrastructure, policy continuity, and faster, more inclusive retail financing so that EV adoption becomes even more mainstream and pan-India,” he said.
