ASHOK The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Estimates Committee inspected various ongoing projects, including the Veera Vasantha Rayar Mandapam in Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple and ₹190 crore bridge measuring 2.1 km at Goripalayam and among other works on Thursday. The committee members led by its chairman and MLA Vedasandur S. Gandhirajan took stock of the funds being spent on various works. In a brief meeting with media persons at Goripalayam, the chairman said that the Estimates Committee’s function was to oversee the government spending on the development works. “Whether the works were being carried out as per the time schedule, on the quality, on the completion et al….” he said. Asked about the likely inaugural of Goripalayam bridge, he said that it was for the Highways Minister to take a call on it. However, he said that workers were being deployed in adequate numbers and that the works were on at a rapid pace. S. ASHOK Similarly, on the Meenakshi Temple kumbabishekam, Mr. Gandhirajan said that works were going on in full swing. Admitting that there were some delay, he however, explained that it was not an ordinary task. It required abundant skills and each pillar had to be installed meticulously. He said that the works were satisfactory. The committee also expressed satisfaction over the food being served in the Adi-Dravida Welfare hostels and at the Kallar Reclamation Schools in the district. “We interacted with the hostelers in three different locations and with the cooks at the hostel….” he added. Madurai District Collector K J Praveen Kumar, Corporation Commissioner Chitra Vijayan, DRO K Anbazhagan, MLAs RM. KR Manickam, Sellur K Raju, Sathan Thirumalaikumar and Raja participated in the review meeting in which senior officials from multiple departments and from the Legislative Assembly were present.
