India must safeguard its energy security and economic interests, says CPI National Executive member K. Narayana. | Photo Credit: File Photo Communist Party of India (CPI) National Executive member K. Narayana on Sunday criticised the foreign policy of the United States under President Donald Trump, alleging that it reflected “authoritarian and destabilising tendencies.” Mr. Narayana called upon the international community to collectively oppose unilateral actions targeting sovereign nations. Addressing the media in Vijayawada on Sunday, Mr. Narayana said countries such as Iraq, Venezuela and Iran had faced severe consequences for pursuing policies independent of U.S. interests. Referring to the removal of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, he argued that allegations over weapons of mass destruction had led to prolonged instability in the region. He expressed concern over rising tensions involving Iran and the growing strategic alignment between the US and Israel. He cautioned that any escalation in West Asia could disrupt global oil markets and adversely affect India’s economy. Urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pursue an independent foreign policy, he said India must safeguard its energy security and economic interests. He warned that strained relations with Iran could impact crude oil imports, potentially leading to higher fuel prices and increased cost of living domestically. The CPI leader also raised concerns about trade measures imposed by the U.S., stating that higher tariffs on Indian goods could hinder India’s growth ambitions. He emphasised that geopolitical instability in the Gulf region might affect millions of Indian workers and reduce foreign exchange inflows. Calling for balanced diplomacy, rooted in peace and mutual respect, Mr. Narayana said the CPI supports efforts to maintain global stability and opposes policies that intensify international tensions.
