Ahead of the Pongal festival, Erode Corporation has appealed to residents to properly dispose of waste generated while cleaning their houses and to avoid dumping garbage on roadsides or vacant plots.

In a release, Corporation Commissioner Arpit Jain urged the public to hand over both biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste to sanitation workers visiting their respective ward areas. Recyclable non-biodegradable solid waste, including old clothes, footwear, unusable plastic items, scrap iron, obsolete electronic devices and discarded wooden furniture, should be collected separately and handed over at authorised scrap collection centres approved by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and the Corporation.

To facilitate the process, special garbage collection vehicles will be operated across the city till January 14. Residents have been advised to make use of this service, segregate waste at source and celebrate a smoke-free Bhogi.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner has invited the public to participate in the Samathuva Pongal celebrations to be held in Corporation areas on Wednesday (January 14, 2026).
