The Ernakulam district panchayat will shortly launch a job portal where people can select women workers ranging from domestic help and drivers to professionals with technical expertise. The project, Anganamitra, is designed to financially empower women by providing employment opportunities. Around 5,000 women will be enrolled in the list in the first phase. “The project aims to ensure financial independence for women. The idea is to bring the job seekers as well as job providers to a platform. The women will be registered on the portal, and an app will be developed to facilitate this. Any woman above the age of 18 and willing to work can enrol,” said K.G. Radhakrishnan, president of the local body. The job portal will connect women job seekers with individuals and companies offering employment opportunities. The portal will feature the job profiles of the women, along with the ratings they receive for their work. The panchayat will provide ID cards and uniforms for the women. Kudumbashree will run the project. Tenders will be floated for developing the app, he said.
