Highlighting the past infrastructure works and promising new schemes, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday campaigned at Kalugumalai in support of Kovilpatti constituency’s AIADMK candidate Kadambur C.Raju.

Addressing the gathering, he said that several welfare schemes were implemented during AIADMK regime, including road development and ‘Kudimarathu’ scheme to improve water storage for agriculture, he alleged that the scheme had been discontinued under the DMK government and assured that it would be revived if the AIADMK returns to power.

He recalled that Kalugumalai town panchayat was declared a heritage town during former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa’s tenure. He added that roads connecting Kalugumalai and Nalattinpudur, Kayathar and Sankarankoil were upgraded into two-lane highways, which he said would be repaired.

Mr. Palaniswami noted that a separate drinking water scheme would be implemented for Kalaugumalai and modern storage facilities with cold storage would be set up at the regulated market.

Referring to the party.s manifesto he said that ₹10,000 would be credited to all ration card holders and the monthly assistance for women would be increased to ₹2,000 and ₹1,000 would be provided along with Pongal gift hampers annually.

He further promised to control inflation, eliminate the drug menace and establish industries for employment generation and set a bus stop at Karattumalai near Kalugumalai.
