Ensure fresh food is served to conservancy workers, welfare board chief tells local bodies

Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Sanitation Workers Welfare Board Thippampatti V. Aruchami on Friday said that the local bodies had been asked to ensure the supply of food to the conservancy workers on time.

Speaking to reporters after distributing welfare assistance to the conservancy workers at the Tiruchi Corporation, he said he had visited Tirunelveli, upon receiving complaints that food items supplied to the conservancy workers were in poor quality, and carried out an inspection at the kitchen. He found that the breakfast for the beneficiaries was being prepared around 2 a.m. Food packets were delivered around 6 a.m.. By the time the beneficiaries had their breakfast, the freshness of the food was lost. Therefore, he had asked the local bodies to keep the food items in hot packs and supply them to the beneficiaries whenever they wanted.

To a question on the demand of regularisation of the services of conservancy workers, who were working in various local bodies on a temporary basis, Mr. Aruchami said that it had been brought to the notice of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. Their services would be regularised after the DMK returned to power, Mr. Aruchamy said. He had requested Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru not to outsource the solid waste management work to the private players and bring all conservancy workers under the control of the respective local bodies.
