A 21-year-old engineering student died, and four others were injured after an unexploded explosive device exploded when a group of students inadvertently kicked it during a trek near the Anumanthapuram firing range under the Singaperumal Koil police limits on Monday (April 13, 2026) evening. Police sources said the deceased has been identified as Emansu Yadav, 21, a fourth-year student of private engineering college. Police said the incident occurred around 5.30 pm when a group of six students climbed a hill located near the firing range, without permission. They are said to have undertaken trekking. The students travelled on three two-wheelers, reached the hilltop and noticed a strange iron object. One of them kicked the object, which struck a rock and detonated.
