Few express trains leaving southern districts towards Madurai were detained for up to three hours after the locomotive of Tambaram-bound Antyodaya Superfast express developed a technical snag near Sattur on Thursday night. According to railway sources, the superfast express, with all unreserved coaches, stopped midway between Sattur and Thulukkapatti railway stations. The train that had to reach Virudhunagar railway station at 6.43 p.m. was delayed by nearly three hours. A relief locomotive from Madurai was pressed into service to help the train resume its journey. As the train blocked up the line, trains that were running behind Antyodaya also got stranded in wayside stations. Thoothukudi-Mysuru Express was detained from more than 2.35 hours, Anantapuri Express for one hour and Kanniyakumari for 45 minutes.
