Sathyamoorthy A juvenile male elephant that strayed towards Doddabetta Peak in The Nilgiris district over the weekend was successfully driven away towards Coonoor by the Forest Department on Sunday (April 12, 2026) night. According to officials, the operation to drive the elephant was undertaken under the cover of darkness to minimise chances of the animal interacting with humans. The elephant was driven towards Aravankadu and is monitored by a team of Forest Department staff, who will resume the exercise to drive it further down the Coonoor slopes on Monday (April 13) evening, officials said.
